Why underground leaks are so common in BC
BC's freeze-thaw cycles stress underground pipes. Aging cast-iron and copper service lines corrode. Tree roots shift and compress pipes. High water table creates soil movement. Result: leaks that can waste thousands of litres daily.
The acoustic survey process
Step 1: Locate pipe access points (meter, cleanout, valve). Step 2: Place sensors at each point. Step 3: Correlate — the instrument listens and calculates. Step 4: Mark the leak location on the surface. Step 5: Confirm with ground microphone. Step 6: Report with findings.
Accuracy expectations
Typical accuracy: within 30cm on metallic pipes, within 50cm on plastic pipes. Depth up to 15m. Pipe runs up to 1km per sensor pair. Results are immediate — you know the location before we leave.
